Medical School Scholarships for Deserving Medical Students from Pennsylvania
The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society awards medical school scholarships each year to students who demonstrate financial need, academic merit, community commitment, or ties to specific counties across the commonwealth. These programs are made possible through the generosity of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and its Alliance, county medical societies and alliances, individual physician donors, and community partners.
Who can apply: Scholarships require that applicants be enrolled full-time at an accredited medical school — either allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (DO), depending on the program. Most scholarships are for Pennsylvania medical schools; however, there are a few that are for any accredited U.S. medical schools. Year-in-program eligibility varies by award; opportunities exist for students from first year through fourth year. Review each scholarship's individual page for specific eligibility requirements.
Pennsylvania residency: Applicant must be a resident of Pennsylvania for at least 12 months prior to registering as a medical student (not including time spent attending an undergraduate/graduate school). Several scholarships specify residency for specific counties. Requirements vary — check each scholarship's eligibility criteria carefully.
Application timeline: Applications open July 1 each year and close September 30. Award notifications are sent in November, and scholarship funds are disbursed directly to your medical school in December. Mark your calendar — the window is firm, and applications are not accepted outside this period.

Scholarships available July 2026 through September 2026:
This scholarship is awarded to a third or fourth-year medical student who resides in Allegheny County and is enrolled full time in a Pennsylvania medical school.
This scholarship is awarded to second or third-year medical students who are residents of Pennsylvania and enrolled full time in a Pennsylvania medical school.
This scholarship is awarded to a second-, third-, or fourth-year medical student who is a resident of Blair County
This scholarship is awarded to a Bucks County resident attending an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school as a second or third-year medical student.
This scholarship is awarded to a medical student attending Penn State College of Medicine.
This scholarship is awarded to a medical student who demonstrates economic hardship and a strong commitment to serving medically underserved communities through volunteer service, leadership, or advocacy.
This scholarship is awarded to a medical student who demonstrates economic hardship and a strong commitment to serving medically underserved communities through volunteer service, leadership, or advocacy.
This scholarship is awarded to a medical student who is a resident of Lehigh County
This scholarship is awarded to first-year and second-year medical students attending a Pennsylvania medical school and are residents of either Philadelphia County or of the following municipalities in Lower Bucks County: Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, or Bensalem Township.
The LCMS Scholarship is awarded to medical students who are residents of Lycoming County.
This scholarship is awarded to first-year medical students who are residents of Montgomery County.
This scholarship is awarded to a first-year medical student who is a resident of Berks, Lehigh, or Northampton County.
This scholarship is awarded to a second-year medical student from Penn State College of Medicine at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania.
The SUN Scholarship is awarded to second-, third- or fourth-year medical students attending a Pennsylvania medical school. Preference will be given to applicants that have been residents of Snyder, Union or Northumberland County at least 12 months prior to registering as medical students.
This scholarship is awarded to a fourth-year medical student within the top 10% of their medical school class with intentions to practice in one of the following specialties: Cardiac Surgery, Otalaryngology Surgery, or Pediatric Oncology.
This scholarship is awarded to a second-, third-, or fourth-year medical student at Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University who demonstrates financial need and community service work with medically underserved populations.
