About

The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, serves as the charitable affiliate of the Pennsylvania Medical Society with a focus to provide access to medical school education; peer monitoring for physicians who suffer from substance use disorders, mental health issues and behavioral concerns; and unbiased clinical competency assessment services for physicians. All Foundation programs are undergirded by philanthropic support.

Contributions from our generous donors make up more than 20 percent of the operating budget. In addition to our Peer Assistance Monitoring Program and Student Financial Services, The Foundation also provides bookkeeping and financial service management to more than 20 associations and specialty societies.

August 2020 - The Foundation Earns Standards of Excellence Accreditation for Nonprofit Ethics and Accountability

​

The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society has been awarded the Seal of Excellence by the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) for meeting the highest standards in nonprofit ethics, governance, and accountability.

​

This nationality recognized Standards for Excellence® accreditation is granted to nonprofits that voluntarily undergo a rigorous peer review evaluating areas such as mission, governance, financial practices, legal compliance, and transparency.

​

"Our team worked hard to demonstrate our commitment to ethical practices across all programs—from the Physicians' Health Program to LifeGuard and Student Financial Services," said Heather A. Wilson, MSW, CFRE, Executive Director. "This seal confirms our dedication to integrity and impact."

Medical Director Raymond C. Truex, Jr., MD, FAANS, FACS, added, "We chose to open ourselves to deep analysis because we believe in building a stronger, more effective nonprofit."
