Our Mission
The mission of The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society is to provide programs and services for individual physicians and others that improve the well-being of Pennsylvanians and sustain the future of medicine.
Our Programs
The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society has supported Pennsylvania's physicians, health care professionals, and medical students since 1954. Through scholarships, loans, wellness programs, and philanthropic giving, we work to sustain the future of medicine and improve the well-being of those who care for our communities.
Scholarships
Each year, the Foundation awards more than a dozen scholarships to Pennsylvania medical students, funded by the Pennsylvania Medical Society, county medical societies, physicians, and community partners. Awards range from county- and school-specific scholarships to need-based awards supporting students committed to serving medically underserved communities.
Physician Loans
Our low-interest loan program helps ease the financial burden of medical school for Pennsylvania residents attending accredited Pennsylvania medical schools. PAMED student members can borrow $6,000–$15,000 per year (up to $50,000 total), with no payments or fees required while in school and interest-free funding until repayment begins.
Physician & Professional Wellness (PA PAMP / PHP)
Through PA PAMP — including the Physician Health Program (PHP), Nurse Health Program (NHP), Dentist Health Program (DHP), and Pharmacist Health Program (PharmHP) — we provide confidential referral, monitoring, and recovery support for licensed professionals facing substance use, mental health, or behavioral health concerns. Our companion LifeGuard® Program offers fair, individualized clinical assessments and educational remediation plans for physicians referred due to quality-of-care concerns, always with respect, integrity, and dignity.
Philanthropy
Gifts to the Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, directly fund scholarships, student loans, and assistance funds for participants in our wellness programs — including the PA PHP Endowment and Assistance Funds. Every contribution helps ensure Pennsylvania's medical community has the support it needs to thrive.
