The physicians who support the Student Financial Services program of the Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society are committed to providing financial aid to future physicians. The program receives a portion of every Medical Society member’s dues and uses these gifts to assist Pennsylvania residents who are attending a Pennsylvania medical school. Additionally, several individual physician families and physician groups have established named funds within the Foundation to provide annual scholarship awards to medical students.
During 2010 we offered the following assistance, made possible by generous physician philanthropists:
Medical Student Loans
For the year 2010, the Foundation disbursed $361,625 in loans to 76 students for their medical education. Including the prior year borrowers, Student Financial Services manages 488 active student loan accounts and maintains a current principal balance of over $4.7 million.
Since 1948, physician philanthropists have distributed over $17.3 million in aid to 4,260 students. Donate Now
Scholarships
Montgomery County Medical Society Scholarship Fund
In 2010, the Montgomery County Medical Society’s (MCMS) Scholarship Fund, housed within the Foundation, reached a funded level sufficient to support award distributions. MCMS established the fund with proceeds from repayments on its student loan program and charitable contributions from its members. The fund’s purpose is to award scholarships to deserving first-year medical students from Montgomery County. The Foundation is pleased to collaborate with MCMS in its efforts to sustain the future of medicine in Pennsylvania.
